Le Nouveau Noir

Tumblring Around Town

Posted in SIGHT by Editor on May 6, 2010

Hey all (if you’re still out there). I’m giving Tumblr a shot. I kinda like its simplicity. I’ve moved a few old posts over there too, so you’ll feel right at home if you come by for a visit. Please find and follow me at: www.girlinthethird.tumblr.com

gone fishing

I’ve been known to be incredibly cryptic at times. This is always and never intentional! Sometimes over-justifying oneself or making obvious statements is just simply unnecessary. However, in light of the fact that I do have loyal blog-readers out there who come back from time-to-time, I feel like I should extrapolate a little on my last post. Le Nouveau Noir Blog has been a lovely side project for me – for nigh on three years now. I’ve really enjoyed having an outlet for capturing fleeting moments. However, the time has come to take extended leave from my personal ventures and focus more on my professional ones. Thus, I’m on hiatus. Its not to say that I wont pop back from time-to-time. I look forward to bringing you exciting news as my new ventures take flight. In the meantime, I want to thank you for visiting, reading and generally just being cool. A personal blog is a brave thing to put out there in the public domain, and I thank each and every one of you who has visited, commented and come back time after time. I hope you will all join me in the next chapter.

turn and face the strain

Change. They say its the only thing thats constant. That is something I find to be consistently true. Ironic. But what of change?

Interestingly I found myself imparting wisdom on a friend at a spontaneous moment today. Unscripted and unprepared (as per my standard rambling moments) I imparted upon dear friend that nothing we ever do is a mistake. There are no right or wrong decisions. Its just another direction. Just change.

Its probably not the most eloquent thing I’ve ever uttered, and certainly not as poetic as some of my other musings. But its about the most poignant thing I’ve said in a while, because when you think about it, and I mean, really think about it. Its abso-fucking-lutely true. And that one piece of little random rhetoric is an invaluable thing to pack in your minds sandwich bag when you leave home in the morning, because every time you find yourself questioning (no matter what the subject) – it is the universally correct answer.

On that note. I will leave you with this…

my presence in the present

Sincerest apologies for the lack of entries of late. Life has been all-consuming. Apart from flitting all over the country in the past month, I’ve been secretly working on a fresh new project for launch in the coming few months. Its a baby I’ve been nurturing for a while and I look forward to telling you all about it as it comes to life. In the meantime, forgive my lack of presence in the present. Patience is a virtue.

Black Sheep Gather Here

Found! The most endearing and unassuming little coffee and collectibles cubby hole in this small town. Today I quite literally stumbled across the hidden treasure that is The Birds Nest Cafe in South Brisbane. Tucked right under the William Jolly Bridge, I felt like I had discovered my own private coffee idaho! Not only are the cute trinkets and collectibles that adorn the walls and floor space worth the fossick, they make the waiting for the perfectly brewed cup of coffee that much more bearable.

Here I flicked through a box of old records while the tantalising aroma of the freshly brewed Black Sheep Espresso teased my senses. At first opportunity, I asked the onsite Barista if I could steal a few snaps of my newfound secret haven to share with you all, however with great regret, he told me that the secret was already out. And so it was, here are a couple of images from the FourThousand website. Expect Black Sheep to flock here soon.

A friend of mine posted this song on my facebook wall not that long ago. Its the very talented Bon Iver and Bowerbirds covering Sarah Siskind’s “Lovin’s for fools”. Its absolutely beautiful. This in itself is complete irony really – such a beautiful melody and warm, soothing sound for such a cynical and sad lyric.

Though not quite word for word, I’ve been known to tout the phrase “Love is for fools” on many an occasion. I suppose that I say it for its very contradictory nature. See, dont tell anyone, but I’m a romantic at heart. And no, not in the traditional “flowers and chocolates” sense. More in the rose coloured glasses type way.

I like to see the beauty in people, places, thoughts, moments. I wear my heart on my sleeve: a lot. I breathe the energies around me, and get swept away in tides of beautiful rainbow-hued nonchalance: where everyone, everything, every person wants nothing but good will and fortune for themselves and each other. Its a beautiful thing, but not without its pains. The reality of life is that sometimes, some people just suck.

Think about it. People created politics, people created capitalism, people created greed, hate, envy, war. The list goes on. When we stop to think about it, it all starts getting a little grim and gloomy. No wonder a nu-wave romantic like me gets her heart broken a hundred times a day! But this always poses me the question – is it better to have loved and been screwed over by a fuckwit (my use of metaphors is quite crude tonight) or to have never loved at all? Which brings me to my answer and point:

If love is for fools, then you can call me the joker.
